Poking Around Hivelandia and Surrounding Communities, Just to See What I can Find!

Earlier today, the "system" — meaning everything related to the Hive blockchain — seemed to be having some issues leading to an eternal string of "Gateway timeout" messages from Keychain (particularly on the financial end), so this morning I found myself sitting and waiting an awful lot.

I'm not one for simply sitting and watching the little spinning circle so I let myself fall into a pattern I used to follow many years ago — when being online really was painfully slow — of clicking on something, and then reading/looking at something else in a different window/tab while the first page/command is executed.

It afforded me the "luxury" of doing a few things I hadn't done in a very long time. Which, in turn, reminded me of why I became interested in this community, in the first place.

Checking the "Recent" Feed...

That was something I used to do, quite often in my early days here. In fact, this account was pretty much built on just watching the recent posts go by — sometimes for as much as a couple of hours a day — simply looking for things that seemed interesting.

Doing so reminded me of just how much creative talent we have here!

That, in turn, made me pause to ponder our orientation towards content. Do we focus on how much garbage there is and them moan and groan about it, or do we focus on the really excellent contributions and laud, reward and highlight them?

Frankly, I prefer the latter.

Meanwhile, it also reminded me of just how much of aforesaid talent goes largely unseen, undiscovered and unrewarded.

It would be nice to think that we have a meritocracy of sorts here, but we have a ways to go in that department. Still, perhaps it is a reflection of social media at large, which invariably results in participants ending up loosely organizing themselves into "tiers" of superstars, go-getters, solid performers, hopefuls... and then the eternally unseen.

But I got some hope from...

Looking at Communities and Tribes

Wow! We sure have a lot of communities now! Or are they "tribes?" Or are they "communities" when they just have a page, and "tribes" when they have their own tokens and front ends?

Regardless of the nomenclature, my point is that we have so many options available!

As I was looking at it all, I realized that perhaps one of the best "strategies" we can offer is for people to focus on some interest or niche they are really interested in and build their accounts and community presence within a subcommunity first. We pretty much all have things we're good at; things that really grab our attention.

But are people — and here I especially mean the people who are already on Hive — even aware that all these possibilities exist?

Reminds me of how I used to periodically check my friends' Hive-Engine accounts, only to discover that it seemed like they had loads of rewarded tokens just sitting there, but the wallet/account had the appearance of never having been logged into.

Makes me wonder just how many people have hundreds sitting there in unclaimed rewards they are not even aware they have...?

So Many Different KINDS of Users!

I suppose one of the "charms" of Hive — as well as one of the things that makes this so difficult to market — is the fact that we have so many different kinds of users.

Investors, blockchainiacs, bloggers, vloggers, artists, musicians, creatives, developers... even manipulators and exploiters.

I suppose it all just goes to show that even though we might like to think otherwise, the community is just another microcosmic reinvention of the greater world... replete with issues, problems, joys and tragedies.

And just because "we're on the blockchain" doesn't make us exempt from the vagaries of human nature!

Of course, many hours have passed since I started writing this, and in my usual style of "I seldom have more than 20 contiguous minutes to apply myself to ANYthing" things have changed, and the "system" seems to working normally again.

I'm pretty happy about that. It sucks to try to use something that "ain't workin' right."

Meanwhile, Bitcoin is poking at $40,000 again, this time with the difference that volume is up, and without an immediate steep nosedive. Let's hope it holds up...

Thanks for reading, and have a great remainder of your week!
